Circularity
Because there is already enough plastic waste on our planet, we at WINQS try to make all our products recyclable. This is not a matter of course, because in fact conventional sports brands still rely on linear life cycles. In reality, most recycled products are not really recyclable. Polyester shirts, for example, can give PET bottles a second life, but their fibers are often so weak at the end of their life that they can only be used as filling material at best. That's why we work either with compostable materials or with materials that we can reprocess without any loss of quality, for example through our molecular recycling program. Circular instead of linear.
Now, recyclable products are much easier to develop in some categories than in others. Running shirts, hoodies or longsleeves are made from one material and can therefore be recycled without any problems. However, items that require a much more complex structure, such as bags or running shoes, require a different approach. We offer our "Repair, Reuse and Recycle Program" for you:
Repair
Our products are not only durable, but also repairable. So before you order a new model, think about whether the current one can be repaired. While your aunt or the nearest sewing salon might help with shirts or trousers, shoes are a bit more complex. We recommend the specialists at Sneaker Rescue, who have years of experience... and our original parts.Reuse
So it's really time for new running shoes? And you really need a new running shirt as well? Fine. But consider carefully whether there might be people who would appreciate your favorite piece. Oxfam Shops are a good place for donations. Just make sure that your things are in good condition - meaning you would also offer them to your best friends.Recycle
Still, one day everything comes to an end, including the life of your shirt or shoe. Check how your products can be optimally recycled. Our textiles, for example, are biodegradable. More complex items like shoes or bags require more effort. Therefore, you are welcome to send them to us and we will take care of their recycling or responsible disposal. Frankly, we believe, this is how all manufacturers should behave. At the heart of our recycling program is our collaboration with NIL Textile. Together with our partner, we offer a unique program on Molecular Recycling.
1. shredding the fabric
2. heat, increase pressure, adjust pH value, add catalyst
3. depolymerization, i.e. decomposition into non-polymerized molecular chains
4. distillation, i.e. extraction of pure molecules
5. cleaning
6. polymerization, i.e. the formation of new polymer chains
7. hardening
8. granulation
9. extrusion of the fibers and processing into new products
