Sustainability
The UN's 17 sustainability goals served as a template for our four "Rules of Fair". These guide us in the development of WINQS and all our products. Tomorrow, however, they may well become the standard for the entire sports industry. The focus is on petroleum-free materials, a holistic circular economy, active climate protection and genuine transparency.
Rule 1
Material
Our goal is a completely plastic-free sporting goods industry. While the competition has been flooding the market with cheap plastics for decades, we rely on renewable, compostable materials such as TENCEL™ Lyocell, castor bean, sugar cane or algae fibres - raw materials whose value creation minimizes, if not reverses, our carbon footprint. If plant-based materials are not yet available for certain purposes, we try to use 100% recycled plastics, especially ocean plastic. Oceans around the world are littered with waste from which we make high-performance and sustainable sporting goods.
Rule 2
Circularity
Because there is already enough plastic waste on our planet, we at WINQS try to make all our products recyclable. This is not a matter of course, because in fact conventional sports brands still rely on linear life cycles. That's why we either work with fully circular solutions (such as compostable materials or molecular recycling) or offer our customers a holistic "Repair, Reuse & Recycle" program.
Rule 3
Climate
Over 20 billion sports shoes alone are produced worldwide every year. This means an estimated 300 million tons of CO2 emissions. And the trend is rising, because the industry wants to keep growing. But instead of taking responsibility and minimizing their footprint, established sports brands hide behind splendid greenwashing campaigns. WINQS thinks differently. We are the first sports brand in the world to manufacture all of our running shoes, clothing and accessories with bio-based or recycled materials and offset our carbon footprint in a certified and binding manner. If a potential product does not allow this process, we simply do not manufacture it.
Rule 4
Transparency
Together with our production partners, we operate a holistic traceability system that always provides the most up-to-date data on our products. Simply scan the QR code on the shirt or click on the respective link on the product page and you will receive binding information about the supply chain of our product. Where do our fibers come from? Where and by whom are they spun into textile? Which factory sews our shirts? Is renewable energy used? What certificates does the factory have? Since 2021, all our textiles are equipped with this information and in the coming months we will expand this system to all our products.
